Feeding Time

Jonathan LOVES his little sister. Tonight he wanted to hold her for a minute, so I told him to climb up in the chair and set her in his lap for a minute. Then I told him that it was time for mommy to feed her so I needed him to get down and let me sit in the chair. He replied "No, my feed her" and lifted up his shirt. Sorry bud, it just doesn't quite work that way.

Obsession

This is what we've been eating after the kids are in bed. First we microwave a Betty Crocker Warm Delights Mini, then add a scoop of vanilla ice cream (last night I used frozen yogurt to save a few calories), then Magic Shell on top. YUM!!!!

As promised

Here are the pictures I promised. The first two are Jonathan and Avery from earlier this week. Avery is growing like crazy! We went to the doctor last Monday and at 10 weeks she was weighing in at 12 lbs 3 oz, 85th percentile! She is smiling a lot and making tons of adorable baby noises. Jonathan still loves her like crazy and wants to kiss her, hold her, and be around her all the time.



These last 3 pictures are from camp a few weeks ago. We went to Showshoe in West Virginia. It was amazing! The last picture is the view from the balcony in our condo. We literally watched the sun go down behind the mountains in a matter of minutes. We were so thankful that my sister Amy was able to come with us. There were so many things for Jonathan to do. The waterslide in the pictures went into a pool that was a foot and a half deep. Perfect! There was also a big sandbox with lots of toys right outside the Starbucks. So Amy and I were able to sit and drink coffee while Jonathan played. Perfect again. Other things he did were jump in a bounce house, play on playgrounds by the lake, and ride paddleboats. It was hard to be really involved with the camp activities because of nap schedules and all that, but we were able to go to worship one night. Jonathan loved the music and clapped his little hands the whole time. His arms would get tired and he would rest his elbows on his knees, still clapping. It was a very special time for me to be in there with my family and our student ministry worshipping the Lord who has entrusted it all to us for this time. I sang "I surrender all" with trembling hands because I feel like I have been so blessed and have a lot to surrender. For several years now the Lord has convicted me about holding my blessings with an open hand. Everything in me wants to close the fists of my heart around the blessings He has given me and claim them for myself. But they really are all for Him, and I must remember that at all times. He has total rights to them, and I really have none. He gives, and He takes away, and I will bless Him either way. I hope this makes sense, it's a bit of what I've been thinking about a lot lately.
On a lighter note, the next night when we attempted to go to worship Jonathan kept saying "ready to go now" and "wake up now" to the people around us who were worshipping with their eyes closed. So much for Jonathan in the worship service.

A day of rest?

Since Ben has to be at church early on Sunday mornings it is my responsibility to get myself and the kids there by myself each week.
The goal is to be heading to the car at 8:30. In order to do this, I need to get up no later than 6:30.
Yesterday I first heard the alarm at 7.
But I didn't have to shave and had a dress I could wear without ironing, so no problem. I can do this. Things are going smoothly, I have Jonathan dressed and eating breakfast a little after 8. Avery is dressed, the bags are packed, and I am all ready except for my clothes when I sit down to feed her at about 8:15. All I have to do after this is throw on my dress, get her in the carseat, wash Jonathan's hands and face and get him down from the table, put Mazie in her crate, and we'll be on our way. This is a little later than I would like, but still doable. Really as long as we leave by 10 till 9 we will be fine.
8:25, about halfway done with feeding, has burped once, but let's try again for good measure. Then it happens. Spit up like I have never experienced. And I have experienced plenty, let me tell you. DRIPPING off of my freshly washed, freshly flat-ironed hair. Half of it. DRIPPING as I run across the living room to get her in the bouncy seat. And all over the back and seat of the chair. And all over her Sunday clothes.
So up the stairs I go, soak my hair with a wet wash cloth, pull out the hair dryer and turn back on the flat iron. Fix Fix Fix, Fast Fast Fast, put my dress, shoes, and jewelry on, grab a new outfit for Avery, back down stairs. Spray down the chair, change her clothes, put her in the car seat, wash Jonathan's hands and face and get him down from the table, here we go. Nope, Avery crying. Hard. She is hungry. After all, she just lost her breakfast. Tell Jonathan he has a few minutes to play with his new trains, make Avery a bottle, since now I am wearing a dress and nursing is pretty much impossible in a dress. Feed Avery. Listen to Jonathan whine for help with his new trains since he hasn't quite figured them out yet. Tell him I'm sorry I can't help right now but I know you can fix it. You can do it! Put Avery back in carseat. Pry Jonathan away from trains. Head to door.
Carrier in hand, diaper bag in hand, backpack in hand, bible in hand. Jonathan down the stairs to the back door. Me down a few of them.
Sniff sniff. Is that what I think it is? Yep, dirty diaper. Carrier down, diaper bag down, backpack down, Bible down.
Carry Jonathan up the stairs. Change diaper. Down the stairs.
Are you still reading this? Or have you quit? Because that's what I wanted to do at that point. We left at 9:47. Why didn't I quit? Why? Because the only thing I needed at this point was to drop my kids off at childcare and walk away. And that is just what I did.


In other news, the no paci thing has been going well at night, but Jonathan has yet to actually fall asleep during naptime without it. And today I told him I was going to the attic to get something and he asked "pacis?". So we're still getting there. But we're determined.

Milestone moment?

Our boy is crying in his bed right now. Tonight after dinner we got down his baby picture album and looked at the pictures, explaining to him how he was a tiny baby once and showing how he has grown. We told him how, as he would outgrow things, we would pack them up and put them in the attic. We packed up some clothes from his closet that he has outgrown, and then added his pacis. Now it is bedtime and he doesn't seem so excited about no paci for bed. I am nervous that it may be a long night, or few nights. We will see.
Avery is crying because the sun is going down, a nightly event for her. A lady at church told me that babies, the elderly, and people with brain injuries get upset when the sun is going down, and there is a medical term for it..."sundowning". I asked if she knew what to do about it, and she said no. Hmm. So we just wait it out every night and do what we can.
We went to camp last week and had an amazing time. There was so much for Jonathan to do! I will post pictures as soon as they become available to me.

We were able to spend an hour with Avery right after she was born. Here are some of the pictures I took during that special time.

Avery Diella Trueblood was born this afternoon at 4:45pm, was 8lbs and 20" long. Both Kristen and Avery are doing very well. We have moved from the labor and delivery into our normal room where we will be until Wednesday morning if all goes well. We will be posting pictures as soon as we can charge our camera battery, we had enough battery to take the pictures but not enough to load them onto our computer :)

Well, here we are in the hospital waiting for Avery. Here is a quick rundown of the events of the day:

6:30am - we arrived at the hospital for our scheduled appointment
8:00am - they started Kristen on the pitocin (spelling?)
10:00am - Kristen's water broke
10:45am - epidural was put in
1:00pm - the current time here in VA as we continue to wait

A-Boose, A-Boose

The weather here has been beautiful the last few days. Yesterday I took Jonathan's choo-choo out to the little park in our neighborhood and took a few pictures. Here's my favorite.

Today Ben had a mission trip meeting at the church, so Jonathan and I ventured out to the mall to find him and easter outfit. We found what we were looking for and sat in the food court for a Chick-Fil-A lunch. As we were eating, this conversation took place:

J: Ja-shin eesa bunny?

Me: You want to see the Easter bunny?

J: Yes

Me: Ok, we'll go back by there after we eat.

I have never been much for seeing Santa or the Easter bunny or any other character, mainly because of the long lines and I had no idea how Jonathan would react. But we always stop to look as we go by, which is what we had done today. So, I took him back by the Easter bunny after lunch, thinking that looking and waving would be plenty. But no. When he saw him, he began trying to get out of his stroller to go see the Easter bunny. I explained that if he wanted to go see the Easter bunny we would have to wait for our turn in the line. He replied "Ja-shin tuwn eesa bunny". So, we got in line, changed from his apple juice soaked tee to his new Easter outfit, and sat on the Easter Bunny's lap for pictures. He was wide eyed, but loving every minute of it. I don't think he was ready to leave when his turn was over. His second birthday is still a month and a half away, but he has been acting like a two year old a lot lately. He knows what he wants, when he wants it, and he doesn't forget. Ben and I are in for a whole new experience in parenting. We are trusting the Lord for wisdom and patience.

I have been trying for several weeks to get a video of Jonathan reading. It is one of his favorite things to do, and he blows us away at the things he remembers and can say. I finally got a decent one of his current favorite, The Little Red Caboose. It's not the greatest angle, but you can hear him talk quite a bit. He says his name and even does his new favorite trick, sticking his fingers down his throat until he gags. So go get a cup of coffee and settle in for story time with Jonathan.

Hey Baby!

We had our 4D ultrasound today and were able to see our sweet baby Avery's face for the first time. I am so amazed that this is even possible! In the first video she is smiling a little bit in the beginning (whoever says newborns don't smile is just wrong) and then snuggling in, in the second video she is yawning so big and you can see her toothless gums. I think she looks a lot like Jonathan, but she definately has her mama's humongo forehead. I'll add one of Jonathan's newborn pictures so you can compare.

It's a new year

Things are back to normal for us after the Christmas break. We had a great trip home to Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. It was lots of traveling but worth every minute of it. Jonathan was great and loved all the attention from everybody! He was so tired by the actual Christmas day that we had to put him down for a nap right in the middle of opening presents, at 9:30 in the morning. He didn't even open his last one until after we had been home for several days. He loves all his new toys. His favorite is his Little People airplane. He talks about it all the time, and once he even woke up in the middle of the night asking for it. It is so fun to watch him play and learn. He is talking like crazy and it's often a challenge for us to figure out what he's saying. Ben is the best at it, and Jonathan is so happy when we say the word that he is saying. For example, tonight I was putting his jamies on and he kept saying "fa fa, fa fa". I finally figured out that he was saying "flip flop". They are still in his changing table drawer from this summer. There's no way they fit on his feet anymore, but he loved it when I pulled them out for him.

This semester I am taking Jonathan to classes at My Gym. We have been twice now and it is a lot of fun. He is learning how to climb ladders and loves playing in the ball pit. It is great for right now since it's too cold to play outside, plus it gives me a chance to do something special with him before the baby comes.

We found out last Thursday that we are having a girl! We are excited and know that Jonathan is going to be a fantastic big brother. I am overwhelmed by all of the cuteness for girls that is available. It is going to require some major self control not to buy everything. Our lease is up on our townhouse here at the end of May, which is right after the baby comes, so we are trying to figure out a way that we can all fit in here so that we don't have to move and have a baby all in one month. Especially since it's the first month of summer and things get really busy around here during the summer anyway.

Where has the time gone?

I have no idea how it became such a long time since my last post. This fall went by so fast!

The biggest news in our lives is that we are expecting baby number 2! He or she will be joining us around May 15, about two weeks after Jonathan's first birthday. Other than that, I'll let these pictures update you on what we've been up to.

We ended the summer with a trip to the beach at the Outer Banks.

For Memorial Day we had another Meat Feast...yum!

Jonathan loves to curl up in a blanket and read a book, just like his mommy. Books are his all time favorite thing right now, and this one, The Fire Cat, was Ben's when he was little. Jonathan is loving it now.

To say "please" in sign language, you rub your hand in a circular motion on your chest. This results in food EVERYWHERE.

Thanksgiving. The funniest part of this meal was when he realized that there was a picture of a dog on his plate (the same plate that he uses several times a week), gasped, and pushed all the food off so he could see better.

So that's where we are now. Getting ready for Christmas. Our good friends from Alabama will be coming to visit in a few weeks and then we will be headed home for a visit.

Meat Feast

I'm so sad that I forgot to take pictures of our Fourth of July celebration. The guys (Ben, John Paul, and Trey) decided that they wanted to go all out and eat as much as possible. They were in charge of the meat and I was in charge of the sides. They told me they were going to do steak and chicken kabobs on the grill and ribs in the oven. I learned the day of that they were also doing sausage on the grill. I also learned that they were splitting this meat fest into 2 seperate meals...kabobs for lunch and ribs for dinner. Oops, I only planned sides for one meal, thinking it would be like Thanksgiving, make a lot of food at once and then eat leftovers later. But we did a little rearranging and a quick run to the store and all was well. Better than well really. Since I don't eat pork, they saved me a huge steak for my dinner. I also made my Grandmother's Banana Ice Box Pie, which was a big hit thanks to some last minute instructions over the phone. A few years ago my Grandmother, mom, and aunt made all the girl cousins a cookbook with recipes of the stuff we grew up on (except for one recipe in my mom's section that I have never seen or heard anything about...hmm). Girl cousins, if you don't use it, you should. Get it out. It is great! And moms and aunts, keep the recipes coming. I rely on them heavily. I love how they are tried and true. Anyway, it was a great day.

We finished the day off with a game of Texas hold em (no cash, just chips for fun), which I had to learn since I had never played before. I am hooked! This is a super fun game! Last night Ben, John Paul and I played again, and the above picture is almost all of my winnings. I somehow managed to beat the guys out of all theirs. I do have to say that my hair looks like that because it was after midnight. Please excuse it.

I'm also adding some pictues of Jonathan from our lazy Saturday morning. We got him the cardboard blocks this week and they are a huge hit. He loves to knock over the tall stacks. After they all fall down he squeals and stomps his little feet around in a circle. It's awesome! He's also saying so many words, but most of them are a one shot deal. If we don't catch it the first time, it's not coming out again. The ones he's saying consistently are ma for ball and tic tic for tickle (he tickles his own tummy while he does that one). This week he also saw an arena football game on TV and a baseball game on TV, and both times he took one look at the TV and said "ma, ma, ma" and they weren't even showing the actual ball!!!! How does he know that ? He also has been trying really hard to say avacado. I guess he knows it's a funny word.

Summer Fun

We had a super fun day today. Jonathan and I were home all day, so after breakfast we took a walk to the neigborhood dog park and let Mazie run free for a little bit. Then after lunch I hooked up the garden hose and let Jonathan play in the water. It was so hot today and the water felt great! I ended up soaked too. Mazie wasn't the biggest fan of the water, so she hung out in the shade. After that we enjoyed some fresh apple carrot kiwi juice and then took a long nap. Yea for summer! I love it!

Summer's in full swing!

Wow last week was a crazy ride. We had our Super Summer event Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights. It was such a great thing, and different from anything we've done before. The kids were divided into teams (each team was a different color), and they earned points for things like team spirit, bringing friends, winning games, etc. They loved it! It was so fun to see what they came up with for team spirit. So that was the beginning of the week. On Thursday one of the girls from our student ministry in Alabama came to visit for the weekend. She stayed until Sunday and it was so fun to see her and catch up. Now she's halfway through college and the last time we saw her she was just graduating high school. Thursday night we had our weekly college volleyball gathering. Friday Ben and I spent all day buying me a new car. My old one was too tired to work anymore. I am loving the new one more than I expected. I didn't realize how much I was putting up with in my old one. I was just loving no car payment. Then Saturday we spent the day at the lake (or the ocean, I'm not sure, I was told it was a saltwater lake?) with the college group. It was a lot of fun. Jonathan swam in the swimming pool for the first time ever and loved it. We got him this cute little crab floatie to sit in. The water was take your breath away cold so I coudn't handle it as long as I would have liked to, but it was fun while it lasted. So anyway then we had Sunday and that was our week. This week is an easy one. We don't have Wednesday night or Sunday night. So hopefully we will be able to finish unpacking. We're pretty much down to the stuff in the garage and hanging pictures on the walls. We need to go through the attic, but that will have to wait till fall when it's not 200 degrees in there.

Settling in

We are finally mostly settled in to our new house. There are still a few boxes left, but we should be able to get to them this week. John Paul's fiance Crystal has been visiting this week and staying at our house, and we have had a lot of fun spending time together. I'm pretty sure Jonathan thinks Crystal is the most beautiful person he's ever seen. He stares at her with starry eyes and touches her face and hair all the time. John Paul is our new middle school pastor and we are so excited about being in ministry with him and Crystal.

Next week on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday night we are doing an event with fun activities for the kids and then our student ministry staff will speak, presenting the gospel and teaching kids how to have a closer walk with Christ. We are praying that it will be a time that we see God move in a mighty way. If you are a believer, please pray with us.

Above are some pictures of what we've been doing lately. We stopped at the beach for a few minutes yesterday and planned on taking pictures there, but I didn't realize the batteries were dead, so we'll have to do that next time. This morning we went to the aquarium. Compared to other aquariums we've seen it wasn't very exciting, but Jonathan seemed to enjoy the outing. There was one fish tank that he could touch from his stroller. It had small fish and hermit crabs in it, and he pointed at each one and babbled on and on about them for several minutes.

The second picture is Jonathan's first ever sunday school art project. When I saw it in his diaper bag after church last week I was the proudest mama ever. I love it so much! Jonathan seemed proud of it too. If he gets ahold of it he pulls those little fuzzies off and throws them like a ball.

Next is Jonathan practicing his key skills. Tonight he got ahold of someone's keys and immediately went to the door with them. I am amazed because there are only a handful of times in his life that he has ever seen anyone do this. He is definately watching and taking in everything around him. Finally is a picture of him in his new PJ's. For those of you that know how he has still been in 6-9 month PJ's, you'll be proud of me for finally buying more.
